July 8, 2019 – Bowmanville, Ontario – Leo Lamelas finished 5th at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park with Ansa Motorsport for the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented By Acura, the fourth round of the IMSA Prototype Challenge with teammate Neil Alberico.

Going into the weekend hopeful to be on the top step of the podium, Lamelas and the crew of Ansa Motor Sport quickly felt the pressure of their competitors as they worked to find the right set-up during their practice sessions. Still tweaking things on their No. 4 JS P3, Lamelas and Alberico ended up qualifying in 8th for the start of the race.

Lamelas worked hard the first half of the race and put the team in a fighting position by the time the first round of pit stops took place in the 3-hour long event. The second half consisted of more competition throughout the field with several great battles taking place between the top five contenders. Alberico found himself in the thick of it between the No. 9 JDC MotorSports Norma M30 of Scott Andrews and Gerry Kraut, the Mid-Ohio winning No. 54 MLT Motorsports of Dylan Murry and Dakota Dickerson, and the No. 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports of Scott Huffaker and Chris Archinaco.

Struggling to find the pace to reach the podium positions, both Lamelas and Alberico had an impressive run and crossed the line in 5th place to gain valuable championship points.

Lamelas will be back in action at VIRginia International Raceway during the Michelin GT Challenge race weekend on August 25th. That weekend also includes the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America.

The IMSA Prototype Challenge race from Canadian Tire Motorsport Park race can be seen on NBCSN on Tuesday, July 16 at 6 p.m. ET.

Leo Lamelas – Driver of the No. 4 Ansa Motor Sport JSP3

“It wasn’t the weekend we were striving for. We struggled with the set-up, which was important with the number of competitors. We gave everything we had to make it into the top five, which is not bad considering how we felt with the car. I think we will be more prepared for the next race with the set-up. I know I’ll be prepared and continue to work hard. We are a few points behind the leaders, so I know everyone is motivated.”
