May 6, 2019 – Lexington, Ohio –Leo Lamelas finished the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, the third round of the IMSA Prototype Challenge with Ansa Motorsport in second place.

Tricky wet weather conditions for practice and qualifying helped Lamelas gain valuable driving experience. The sun came out, and the track was dry for the start of the one-hour 45-minute race where Lamelas started from 9th on the grid. The green flag waved and marked the beginning of a phenomenal performance from the Brazilian who chased down his competitors one-by-one until he was in 2nd place.

Pitting 45-minutes into the event, Lamelas handed over the No. 2 Ansa Motorsport JSP3 to teammate, Neil Alberico. The California-native headed back into the race in 2nd place in hot pursuit of the leader. The technical twists and bends of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course kept Alberico from getting a clean pass, and he finished the race in 2nd place.

The podium result put Lamelas second in the IMSA Prototype Challenge points standings, just four points behind No. 47 Forty7 Motorsports duo of Austin McCusker and Rodrigo Pflucker. Racing continues July 7 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Leo Lamelas – Driver of the No. 2 Ansa Motorsport JSP3

“I’m very happy with the race and getting the points we needed to get closer to lead the Championship standings. I’m extremely happy with the team, my teammate Neil, my performance, and the car being so good. I’m also pleased about driving in different conditions. The weather here was so difficult with the rain and the cold. I have experience in every condition now.

Now I will start preparation for Canada and try to keep these results coming and get the lead of the Championship standings.”
